What are asbestos related injuries?

Asbestos can cause a number of different injuries:

• Pleural plaques
• Pleural thickening
• Asbestosis
• Mesothelioma

The above diseases are caused by inhaling quantities of asbestos fibres, which have gone on, typically many years later, to cause injury to the lungs.

Unfortunately recent changes in the law mean claims can no longer be pursued for Pleural Plaques.

How do I claim compensation?

If you have been diagnosed with 1 of the above listed diseases and you were exposed to asbestos we may be able to help you pursue a claim.

In many cases you may no longer work for the employer who exposed you to asbestos or indeed they may no longer be trading. We would still be able to assist in these situations and should be able to pursue the claim against your past employers insurers.

In other cases the exposure may not be as a result of your employment and again we may be able to help you bring a claim.

How much is my claim worth?

In order to assess the value of your claim we would need to commission a medical report. The value would be based upon the outcome of that assessment.

Assistance

If you have been diagnosed with an asbestos related disease through exposure at work you may be entitled to claim benefit. These diseases are covered in The Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (diseases). Your injury will be assessed independently and you could be awarded benefit accordingly.

If the employer who exposed you to asbestos is no longer trading and no insurers for them can be found you may be able to receive a lump sum payment from a scheme set up by the Government under the Pneumoconiosis Etc. (Workers' Compensation) Act 1979, if you are already in receipt of Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit. Further details are available on the above website.
