What is occupational asthma?

Asthma caused by the working environment falls into 2 types: irritant asthma and allergic asthma.

1 - Irritant asthma

This type of asthma is caused by the person being exposed to irritants such as volatile acids or fumes. A severe form of irritant-induced asthma is called reactive airways disease syndrome or RADS. RADS is caused by a one time exposure to a high level of irritant.

2 - Allergic asthma

In this type of case the inhaled material sensitises the persons airways so that later exposure to the same substance brings on asthma. Common causes in cases are isocyanates, welding fumes and latex amongst others.

How do I claim compensation?

If you have been diagnosed with asthma and you were exposed or are being exposed to fumes through work we may be able to help you pursue a claim.

You would need to have seen your GP and for asthma to have been diagnosed.

How much is my claim worth?

In order to assess the value of your claim we would need to commission a medical report. The value would be based upon the outcome of that assessment.
