Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

 

What are you entitled to and what does it cover?

 

You may be entitled to Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit if you were disabled by disease or deafness:

  • While you were on an approved employment scheme or course
  • During your ordinary course of employment

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit does not apply if you were self employed at the time the disease or deafness was caused.

 

What diseases does the scheme cover?

 

More than 70 diseases are covered by the scheme including:

  • Vibration white finger
  • Deafness
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Asthma
  • Pneumoconiosis
  • Mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases

If you are unsure whether your disease is covered by the scheme a full list of diseases can be obtained from your local Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit Centre.

 

How much am I entitled to?

 

The amount payable under the scheme varies depending on the severity of the disability.

To determine the severity you will assessed on a scale of 1 to 100%, to be entitled to the benefit you must be assessed at a minimum of being 14% disabled.

Effects on other payments you may receive

 

If you are claiming any of the following benefits, you can continue to do so without affect:

  • State Pension
  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Jobseekers Allowance- contribution based
  • Employment and Support Allowance- contribution based

If either you or your partner are claiming the following benefits these will be affected by the Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit:

  • Jobseekers Allowance- income based
  • Employment and Support Allowance- income based
  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Working Tax Credit
